Reorder and Delete PDF Pages

Use this when a scan came out in the wrong order, a page is upside down, or there are blank pages and cover sheets you do not want to send. Everything happens on your device, so contracts, HR letters, and medical records do not leave your machine.

A Worked Example: A 12-Page Scan in 3 Minutes

A 12-page contract comes out of an automatic document feeder at 4.8 MB. Page 4 is blank, page 7 is upside down, and page 9 landed after page 10.

1. Open the PDF Page Organizer and add the file.
2. Delete page 4 with the remove button. The remaining pages renumber immediately.
3. Rotate page 7 by 180 degrees in two 90-degree steps.
4. Move page 9 up one position so it sits before page 10.
5. Export. You get a fresh 11-page PDF in the order shown on screen, still around 4.7 MB.

Check the first and last page plus every page you changed before you send it.

What Carries Over

Pages are copied as-is with their content, so text usually stays selectable after an export. Reordering, rotating, and deleting are the three supported actions. Interactive forms, embedded signatures, and annotation layers may behave differently depending on how the original was built, and rotation is applied as page display rotation rather than a permanent re-render of the scan. Keep your original if the file contains anything you cannot recreate.

Reordering, Rotating, and Deleting Pages Without a Desktop App

The page grid you see after upload is the whole interface. Every page gets a thumbnail rendered at a maximum of 240 pixels wide, a label showing its original page number, its current rotation in degrees, and four buttons: Up, Down, Rotate minus 90, and Rotate plus 90, plus a Delete Page button. The Up and Down buttons are disabled at the ends of the list, so the first page cannot move up and the last cannot move down. Rotation is stateful rather than a one-shot toggle: rotating a page plus 90 twice shows 180 degrees, and the preview rotates live so you can see the orientation before exporting. To fix a ten-page scan with an upside-down page 3 and a page 9 that belongs second, click Rotate plus 90 twice on the Page 3 card, then click Up seven times on Page 9. Cards keep their original page numbers throughout, so you can always tell where a page came from.

The Exact Clicks

Click the drop zone and choose a PDF, or drag one in, and wait for the thumbnails to appear. Use Up and Down to change order, Rotate minus 90 and Rotate plus 90 to change orientation, and Delete Page to drop a page entirely. When the arrangement is right, click Export PDF, which rebuilds the document locally and downloads it as jwtoolbox-reordered followed by a timestamp.

The Decisions That Change the Output

The main decision is made by the tool rather than by you, and it matters. The exporter tries a lossless path first, copying the chosen pages into a new document so text stays selectable and vectors stay vectors. If the original will not load that way, which is typical for an encrypted or permission-restricted PDF, it falls back to rendering every page as a PNG image at three times scale. The fallback still produces the right order and rotation, but the result is a raster document: text is no longer selectable or searchable and the file can be noticeably larger. So if the export will not let you select any text, that is the fallback having run, not a setting you got wrong. Two hard limits shape the workflow before you begin: the file must be under 50 MB, and the organizer only builds previews for documents of 60 pages or fewer.

Common Mistakes

Uploading a hundred-page document and reading the refusal as a broken file. The limit is deliberate, because every page is rendered to its own preview image and a long document exhausts browser memory; split the document first. The second mistake is deleting pages to build a shorter document and then wanting them back in the same session; the deletion removes them from the working list, so the original needs a fresh upload. The third is assuming export also repaginates: page numbers printed on the pages are part of the artwork and do not change, so a page that says 3 still says 3 even if it now sits second in the file.
