How to Convert HEIC to JPG Locally: A First-File Walkthrough

If a website rejects an iPhone HEIC photo, create a JPG copy with the HEIC to Image Converter. The conversion runs in the browser. Keep the original HEIC file until you have opened and checked the exported image.

Convert one photo

  1. Open the converter and select a .heic or .heif file.
  2. Choose JPG for an ordinary photo that must work with a JPG-only upload form.
  3. Start with the default JPG quality of 85%. Lower quality trades detail for file size; it does not set an exact byte limit.
  4. Select Export as JPG ZIP. The download contains the converted image, even when you selected only one file.
  5. Extract the ZIP, open the JPG, and inspect orientation, colors, dimensions and fine details before sharing it.

There is no per-file download button in this converter. A ZIP is a container, not an image: upload the extracted JPG when a form asks for a photograph.

JPG or PNG?

Choosing PNG does not guarantee that every feature of the original HEIC container is retained. The converter exports a still image and, when its decoder returns several images, currently keeps the first one. Do not use it as a Live Photo, depth-map or metadata-preservation tool.

Check the receiving website's requirements

Some forms require both a file-size limit and particular dimensions. Converting to JPG alone does not ensure acceptance. If the result is too large, use the Image Compressor; if dimensions are the issue, use the Image Resizer. The 200 KB image guide shows how to measure the extracted file and adjust settings.

For an identity or document photo, follow the receiving organization's rules and check that required details remain legible. Keep an untouched original.

Privacy and compatibility

The converter uses a browser decoder rather than uploading image contents to JW Tool Box. Site analytics and advertising remain separate network activity, as explained in the Privacy Policy. Browser memory, file encoding and decoder support can affect success. An accepted filename does not prove that the underlying image can be decoded.

Renaming another format to .heic does not convert it. If a file fails, retry one original image and consult the troubleshooting checklist, rather than repeatedly submitting the entire batch.
