Find your exact age down to the day and see how many days until your next birthday. Works for any date — past, present, or future.
Why trust this guide
- Written by JW Tool Box around the actual workflow or linked tool on this page.
- Updated when browser behavior, file handling, or platform dimensions change in ways that affect the steps.
- Focused on practical settings, safe defaults, and real tradeoffs instead of generic filler.
TL;DR — Enter a birthdate → get exact age (years/months/days) + days until the next birthday. Open the calculator →
Whether you're filling out a visa form that asks "age as of date of arrival," checking if your kid meets a school enrollment cutoff, or just curious how many days until your birthday — you need an exact answer, not a rough guess.
The Age Calculator breaks age into years, months, and days for any target date and shows the countdown to the next birthday. No downloads, no sign-ups.
Why Manual Age Math Is Harder Than It Looks
Sounds simple, right? Your birthday is March 15, 1990. Today is January 12, 2026. You're 35. Except... are you 35 years, 9 months, and 28 days? Or 35 years, 9 months, and 27 days? It depends on how many days are in the months between — and whether any of those years were leap years.
The math gets especially tricky for:
- February birthdays in leap years (born Feb 29 — when is your "real" birthday in non-leap years?)
- Month boundaries (if you're born Jan 31 and today is March 2, how many months is that? One or two?)
- Future dates (you need to know your age on a specific date 6 months from now)
The calculator handles all of this automatically.
How to Use It
- Open Age Calculator
- Enter a birthdate
- Set the target date (defaults to today, but you can pick any future or past date)
- See three things:
- Exact age: years, months, and days
- Days until next birthday: a countdown
- Total days lived: sometimes you just want to know
Real Use Cases
Visa and immigration eligibility
Many visa applications require your age "as of" a specific date. The H-1B lottery, for instance, uses the employment start date. Student visas may check your age on the first day of the program. Enter that future date as the target and get the exact age the consulate needs.
School enrollment cutoffs
In most US states, children must turn 5 by September 1 to start kindergarten that year. If your child's birthday is August 28 or September 3, the exact date matters. Enter the cutoff date as the target to see if they qualify.
Retirement planning
Social Security full retirement age varies between 66 and 67 depending on birth year. Enter your birthdate and set the target to your claimed retirement age to see the exact date you'll be eligible.
Birthday countdown
The simplest use case: how many days until my next birthday? Enter your birthdate, leave the target as today, and see the countdown. Some people use this to plan milestone celebrations — 30th, 40th, 50th birthdays where the exact date matters for venue bookings.
Insurance and legal age thresholds
- Rental car age (25 in most US states)
- Legal drinking age (21)
- Medicare eligibility (65)
- AARP membership (50)
- Youth sports league cutoffs
Enter the threshold age with your birthdate and find the exact date you'll qualify.
Pair With Other Time Tools
- Date Calculator — add or subtract days from any date (e.g., "what date is 90 days from now?")
- Countdown Timer — set a live visual countdown for a specific event or deadline
FAQ
Can I enter a future target date?
Yes. Set any future date as the target to see what your age will be on that day. Useful for applications that ask "age as of [date]."
Does it handle leap years?
Yes. The calculator uses proper calendar math for month lengths and leap years (including century rules — 2000 was a leap year, 2100 won't be).
What about people born on February 29?
The calculator handles Feb 29 birthdays. In non-leap years, the "next birthday" uses March 1 by convention.
Is any data stored?
No. Everything stays in your browser's memory and clears when you refresh or close the tab.
Can I calculate someone else's age?
Yes — just enter any birthdate. Common use: parents checking their child's age for school enrollment or sports leagues.
